What is Xeomin?

Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA, also called botulinum toxin type A), is a toxin made from the bacteria that causes botulism. It blocks nerve activity in the muscles, leading to the temporary relaxation of muscle activity and the reduction of wrinkles. Through a proprietary process, any excess proteins are removed, making this the purest toxin and decreasing the risk of an immunity response following injection. This property may also reduce your chances of developing a toxin resistance with repeated use. Another characteristic of Xeomin is that it possesses a high diffusion rate, allowing it to spread and affect a larger area than other toxins like Botox. Procedure

Am I a good candidate?

Generally, Xeomin is well-tolerated by most people, however if you’ve had any reactions to similar treatments in the past, you should avoid Xeomin. Xeomin cannot be injected if any infections are present at the injection site, and anybody with neuromuscular diseases are advised against it. Prior to injecting, you must inform us of any medications, vitamins, and/or supplements you are taking. Good candidates are healthy adults displaying lines, wrinkles, or sagging skin.  We recommend avoiding Xeomin if you are nursing or pregnant.

Downtime, results, and follow-ups

How should I prepare for Xeomin injections?

Before coming in to receive your treatment, you should follow these pre-procedure instructions to minimize the risks of adverse reactions:

• Avoid alcohol, as it may increase your risk of bruising
• Avoid anti-inflammatory/blood-thinning medications 2 weeks in advance if possible, as these can increase your risk of swelling and bruising (Aspirin, Vitamin E, Ginkgo Biloba, Ginseng, St. John’s Wort, Omega 3/Fish Oil supplements, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, and other NSAIDs).
• Avoid coming in with makeup or be prepared to remove it.
• Try to schedule appointment two weeks before special events, as swelling can take up to two weeks to resolve.
• Stay hydrated and eat well before your appointment.

What should I do after receiving Xeomin?

Although there is no downtime and you can return to your normal activities, it is important to follow these post-treatment instructions in order to maximize the results and avoid complications:

• Remain in the upright position and avoid laying down for 3-4 hours after the procedure. This allows the injections to settle.
• Avoid excessive facial expressions for the remainder of the day
• Avoid facials and facial massages for the first week. This can disperse the injections.
• May ice the treated areas to reduce swelling and bruising if necessary, but be sure to press lightly
• Use sunglasses in the sun, as Xeomin can prevent you from squinting, frowning, and furrowing.
