Cosmelan Peel

Overview

Regardless of your skin tone and type, pigmentation concerns are a growing, global issue; they affect more than 90% of adults over the age of 50. Is your uneven skin tone causing a significant issue affecting your psychological, emotional impact and quality of life?
Hyperpigmentation is caused by abnormal production of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin color, and is consequence of uncontrolled, localized overproduction of melamine by the melanocytes, causing irregular skin coloration and dark spots. Also known as ‘masked pregnancy’ for women who are pregnant.

Am I a good candidate?

The Cosmelan Depigmentation is appropriate if you have hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone issues you wish to address. You should not have this peel if you are pregnant or nursing, have used Accutane in the last six months, or have active rosacea. In these circumstances, treatment would need to be postponed or other options may be recommended.

Is it safe?

In the hands of our experienced staff, this treatment is safe for mostly all skin types, even for skin types IV. All skin types can safely benefit from this treatment.

Downtime, results and follow up

As this peel must be applied on for several hours, we recommend you plan accordingly. Most clients go straight home after their treatment because the peel itself has the texture and look of peanut butter. The treated area will most likely be red with some possible tenderness over a couple days following application. Don’t worry, this is normal, it is indicating that the peel is working!

Post 2-3 days after your treatment, you will experience some flaking/shedding of your skin. Once that phase is done, you’ll start to notice your fresh skin coming to the surface. The blemishes you addressed should be significantly diminished. This process will gradually continue as your skin continues to heal.

By the second week, you’ll notice that your skin has a new healthy glow. You can expect to see the complete results after 4-5 weeks.

How should I prepare for this?

Clear out your schedule for the day. You’ll be expected to leave this peel on for 8-12 hours. The Cosmelan treatment will occur in two steps. During the first step, your provider will gently double cleanse the treatment area before applying the chemical peel. Second step will be done 48 hours post initial treatment with your first use of Comelan 2 (at home kit that you will be sent home with). This will be applied two to three times per day for the first two weeks and then daily for up to a year to maintain your results.

How effective is this treatment?

This professional treatment will start to show effects for fading dark sports, uneven skin tone, sun damage, acne scars and most importantly, melasma. You’ll notice a difference in your texture immediately after your healing phase.
